At Shop Direct, we know that our business and operations have an effect on the environment. But where possible, we aim to avoid or minimise that impact through careful environmental management and good business practices.
We focus on key priority areas that can impact the environment:
- Improving energy consumption and efficiency
- Increasing the amount of waste recycled
- Minimising the need for business travel
- Increasing the efficiency of the delivery of our products
- Reducing our paper usage and ensuring responsible sourcing
We’re extremely proud to have been certified as a Carbon Trust ‘standard bearer’ in recognition of our efforts in these areas.
Over the last few years, we’ve achieved a lot…
Energy
- Electricity usage has reduced every year since 2006
- Gas usage has fallen by over 50% since 2006
Waste
- Less than 1% of waste is sent to landfill
Business travel and distribution
- Road travel for business reasons has reduced every year for the last five years
- In 2012, the launch of new trailers, carrying twice the load, saved 800 tonnes of CO2
Paper
- 80% of the paper used for catalogues and magazines is PEFC-certified
- The volume of catalogues printed has fallen from over 14 million in 2009 to zero
