Black Friday eclipsed Cyber Monday at Shop Direct, the UK’s leading multi-brand online retailer, and became the biggest trading day in its history.
Shop Direct more than doubled its sales target on Black Friday with orders at flagship brand Very.co.uk surging 134% year on year on the day.
All six of Shop Direct’s digital department store brands featured hourly deals on Black Friday. These ran from 7am to 9pm on Very.co.uk.
The success of Black Friday surpassed Cyber Monday, traditionally the busiest online shopping day of the year, making it the etailer’s biggest sales day of the year.
However, Cyber Monday was still a resounding success for Shop Direct, with orders on Very.co.uk up 19.7% on last year’s busiest shopping day.
Jon Owen, retail brands and trading director at Shop Direct, said: “If Black Friday came of age last year, it was turbo-charged this year. We were blown away by its success – it has definitely secured its place as a staple of the UK retail calendar.
“Our customers lapped up our market-beating deals and the strong demand continued throughout the weekend and into Cyber Monday, making it the most successful few days in Shop Direct’s history.”
Shoppers flocked to Shop Direct’s websites via tablet devices, which accounted for 63% of overall traffic on Black Friday. This peaked at 76% of traffic at 7am when shoppers searched for deals with their tablets while eating their cornflakes.
The top-selling products on Black Friday included games console PS4 and Calvin Klein Eternity perfume.
On Cyber Monday, deals included 30% off beauty brands and up to £150 off smartphones at Very.co.uk. Top sellers on the day included a JMB 50” TV and Fiorelli heart earrings.
